Decisions.

Hello everyone!

My assessments got over today leaving me free for the weekend and I thought of writing something which had disturbed me for sometime.

So earlier this week, the state board had announced the results of class 12. Though the actual final exams never happened, the marks had been calculated with the student’s performance in their previous exams. All of that is fine! I heard 100% pass for a state for the first time, a steep rise in students with above 90%, All good! I’m happy for them all! And if you are one among them congratulations!

But then, I saw something which just reflected the mindset of the society I’m surrounded by. The very second page of the newspaper I buy, had a big headline, covering from the left end to the right end in big bold letters. It read “HIGH SCORES TO PUSH UP ENGG CUT-OFF”.

A set of questions struck my mind when I read those lines were, “Aren’t there any other things to study after school? Why has engineering gained such importance here? Though people complain of unemployment and make sarcastic silly jokes about engineers, why does my society concentrate on engineering education?” I tried answering them myself.

So, I had been in the same situation a few years ago, where I was given no other option other than engineering for my career. I had no other option but to go with the flow. Of course I had other ideas for my career! But it didn’t seem to be a productive one for those well-wishers around me. My parents said, you do engineering, get a job, be on the safer side, and then pursue your dream. I felt that to be a good idea and accepted it wholeheartedly. Though, we all say money isn’t a matter, it’s just in words. Without money you just can’t lead a happy life these days in the real world (* i don’t support people who run behind money though, i support people who make money come towards them *).

Oops! I got diverted, coming back again! So, why nobody was able to give me the confidence to pursue what I wanted to? Are other courses here useless for humans to make a life? In my case, I accepted the path I was given with few changes, to make me comfortable through the way and I started walking. But not everybody does it! There are few, who had the aim to become an engineer and have reached there. There are few, who aimed for engineering and landed up somewhere else. There are few, who had some other dream and landed up here. Without accepting what you have been given… wholeheartedly, how will you get in the mood to explore the thing? What is the fate of uninterested people learning engineering? It’s simple! Unemployment. The world requires people who are efficient, creative and hard working with smartness. Without having interest, we can’t spend the energy of our mind on something and get a useful output and thus end up unemployed.

So, through my observation, I have understood that, either I have to be stubborn in what I choose, no matter what others say and be ready to face everything in the way. Or, I have to accept what I’m being given wholeheartedly and make the most out of it without regretting my decision.

It’s been 4 years since I chose the second option, now I have no regrets and I’m totally satisfied. I’m in love with the engineering!

Just thought of sharing this idea with all those out there! You may be younger than me, older than me, even at the same age… but I feel this might give you some clarity in your upcoming days.

Feel free to put down your views in the comment section or in my dms!

Thanks for reading!!

p.s: I made the meme up there! Another sarcastic comment people make “engineers grow up as memers.” ufff

  2. Loved and loved how sarcastically you targeted society. There’s a lot more unexplored courses in the world. Pushing students to this and making them feel like they are caught in a trap is an injustice!
    Kudos for writing this! 👏
